Holiday Spirit
I had the opportunity to be a part of the Jimmy Walker Holiday event on Saturday. This annual event identifies over 200 children in the 5 to 9 year age range who come from families caught up in difficult financial times. Jimmy hosts a carnival with clowns, rides, a petting zoo, and giant inflatable jumping gyms. The center piece of the show includes a ball handling demonstration by the Harlem Globetrotters followed by the arrival of Santa Claus who unveils a tent full of brand new bicycles….one for each of the children in attendance. After they receive the bikes, the kids and their families came through a line to receive a food box with a turkey from the food bank.
It was great to see the smiles of appreciation from the families for the food we handed out…..but it was even better to see the gleam in the children’s eyes as they proudly wheeled their new bikes through the line. What a great way to make the holiday spirit come to life
