National Hunger Awareness Day - June 6, 2006
You’ve seen on our main website that June 6th is National Hunger Awareness Day. This is a real opportunity for the Food Bank to gain visibility about the hunger issue during a traditionally slower time of the year. Unfortunately, people in our area are hungry year round. We actually distribute more food during the summer months than we do during the holiday season. That fact surprises a lot of our donors. If you think about it, the school lunch and breakfast programs that many children rely on are closed during that timeframe so they turn to other agency centers to get those meals. Please stop by on June 6th at one of our receptions, either at our Surprise facility or at the St. Mary’s/Westside Food Bank Alliance at 31st Avenue & Thomas to learn more about the hunger issue in our community and to see first hand how your donations are put to work.
