National Hunger Awareness Day - June 6, 2006

Tuesday, June 6th, was a great day at all of our food bank locations! Our goal for National Hunger Awareness Day was to create additional public awareness of the hunger issue in our community. I feel we were very successful in accomplishing this on all fronts! Between the eight community distributions we held at sites all across the valley and one in Flagstaff, along with the morning reception and program in Surprise, and the late morning reception and program at our 31st Avenue facility, I feel we made quite a statement and rallied incredible support for our efforts to end hunger. The donor support we receive never ceases to amaze me! And truly our donors came forward once again to help us make a very public statement about the community’s willingness to aid their neighbors.

Days like this past Tuesday remind me why I enjoy my role with the food bank so very much. As our supporters, volunteers, donors, agencies and staff came together on National Hunger Awareness Day, I truly got to see the generosity of our community, the appreciation of those we serve and the smiles on the faces of people whose lives have been touched by many!

Thank you Arizona for your support and commitment to end hunger!
