Sara Lee

Yesterday I attended an all employee staff meeting at the Sara Lee distribution center in Tolleson. The meeting was designed to serve as a kick off for the center’s year long fund and food raising drive for St Mary’s. The senior staff at the center prepared a traditional summer barbeque luncheon for all employees and then introduced the program. Their plans call for conducting monthly events with different themes focused on helping various St Mary’s programs. For example, in August they are planning a backpack effort where their goal is to fill more than a 100 backpacks with food for us to use during one of our back to school food distributions.

I was thrilled with the enthusiasm of the organizers and the senior staff. It is very special for me to be asked to be a part of these kinds of events. I really get to see first hand the willingness of corporate America to get involved with the communities where they operate. By demonstrating senior management support it encourages their employees to get more active and work to make a difference in the communities in which they live.

Thanks Sara Lee for making a difference!
