What a wonderful day at the food bank....

What a day we have had at the food bank….. In honor of National Hunger Awareness Day, we held six major community distributions where we distributed 2,400 food boxes to needy families in the central Phoenix area between 7 and 9 AM. Those distributions represented enough food to create almost 30,000 meals worth of food. Then we had a program here at the food bank, which recognized many of our major food donors. There was an over flow crowd of folks representing our agencies, volunteers, donors, government officials, food industry leadership, our Board of Directors and Staff. We received proclamations from the Mayor of Phoenix and the State of Arizona recognizing the efforts of St Mary’s. Our Operations, Programs and Community Relations staff did an incredible job. We had TV coverage from channels 3, 5, 10, 12,15 and 33 and also had radio hits from 5 major stations. Increased awareness was one of our objectives along with moving more food into the community. We accomplished both with flying colors.

Today….we made a very strong statement that we can win the battle against hunger in our
community because the community is behind us in our efforts.

Thanks to all for making National Hunger Awareness Day 2005 a day to remember!
