What a month.....

Sorry for not posting much in recent weeks but things have been a bit hectic here at the food bank. When I joined the food bank, everyone told me the summer months typically slowed down in all areas. Well…..June has been one of the busiest months I have seen since I joined. While the final numbers are still being tallied, we will have received and distributed more than 3.5 million pounds of food for the month. Remember each pound represents approximately one meal, which means we will have distributed more than 800,000 meals worth of food each week. That significantly exceeds our normal average week of 600,000 to 700,000 meals.

Our agency relations team has been working hard to make sure eligible agencies are taking full advantage of the food distribution programs we have available. It also means our food resourcing team, who work with our food donors, have had to turn up their efforts to be able to keep pace with need.
