Summer Meal Program
In conjunction with the Litchfield School District and their Food Service Director, David Schwake, the Food Bank played a role during the months of June and July in supplying 33,000 breakfasts and 42,000 lunches to local children and their families. Remember, the summer months are a very tough time for children, when the school lunch and breakfast programs are shut down. David took it upon himself to create a meal service program during those tough months for folks in the Litchfield School District community. St. Mary’s/Westside Food Bank Alliance played a part in this program in that we supplied some of the food used to prepare the meals and also supplied food for the children and families to take home for preparation. A large number of the families that took advantage of the program were from Luke AFB. We also made sure the families from Luke AFB were able to participate in our “Survival Kit” backpack program during the month of June. Many of these children used the backpacks for the remainder of the summer!
Thanks, David, for your commitment to your community and allowing St. Mary’s/Westside Food Bank Alliance to play a role in supporting you!
